Traditional healer Makhotso Lee-Anne Mofokeng, widely known as Gogo Maweni, appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The case has been postponed until next Monday to allow for a formal bail application, with Maweni set to remain in custody until then. Her arrest followed a targeted operation on Sunday in connection with an alleged assault case dating back to 2019.
According to a circulating police report, Maweni was traced by the Gauteng cold case investigation unit and the Gauteng intelligence investigation office. The operation initially led investigators to her Fairlands residence in Johannesburg, but she was eventually apprehended in Mondeor.
Inquiries sent to Gauteng police about other alleged pending cases involving Maweni have yet to yield definitive responses. Police officials have not confirmed if she is a suspect in additional cases.
