A Song Born from Loss
Acclaimed South African singer-songwriter Wandile Mbambeni has released his latest single, Hey Lord, a deeply introspective song that wrestles with grief, faith, and the search for meaning in times of loss. The track was born on the morning Mbambeni learned of rapper AKA’s passing—a moment that stirred emotions he had grappled with before, notably following the loss of Riky Rick.
Wrestling with Grief and Faith
Overwhelmed with sorrow and unanswered prayers, Hey Lord became his way of processing the pain, questioning God, and seeking strength in the face of despair.
“When Riky passed, I had questions. When AKA passed, those questions came back. It felt like too much,”
Mbambeni shares.
“I asked God to forgive me for even just thinking about leaving this earth, for letting the darkness in. This song is my way of speaking to Him, of asking for strength when I have none.”
A Deeply Personal Sound
Predominantly sung in Xhosa, Hey Lord is a raw and vulnerable expression of the emotional turmoil that grief can bring. It blends gospel influences with folk sincerity, carried by Mbambeni’s signature soul-stirring vocals.
Continuing His Musical Journey
The track follows the success of his single I Don’t Regret It, continuing his tradition of creating music that resonates deeply with listeners. Known for his heartfelt storytelling, Mbambeni has carved a niche for himself as an artist who is unafraid to explore the depths of human emotion.
A Message of Healing and Strength
Hey Lord serves as a reminder that music can be both a form of healing and a space for open conversation about mental health, faith, and resilience. The single is now available to stream worldwide via Platoon: Listen Here.
