From Miami to Mzansi
After making its debut at the American Black Film Festival in Miami, Treasure Hunt — a faith-filled, action-packed, feel-good movie shot in KwaZulu-Natal — is set for its big-screen premiere in South Africa this October.
A Story of Redemption and Second Chances
At its core, Treasure Hunt carries a powerful redemptive message, weaving together real-life struggles with themes of grace, forgiveness, courage, and love. It’s a Christian film that balances faith with gripping action, heartfelt drama, and romance.
Premiere Dates and Screenings
- Johannesburg Premiere: Tuesday, 14 October 2025, 5:00 PM at Killarney Mall CineCentre
- Durban Premiere: Friday, 17 October 2025 at Suncoast CineCentre
- Screening Run: One week from 17 October 2025 at both venues, with the possibility of extension based on attendance.
Set in the Valley of a Thousand Hills
The film tells the story of a man striving to leave behind a broken past. When he discovers a stash of jewellery in a trash bin, he faces a defining choice: return to old ways or stand firm in doing what’s right. Through this journey, the film explores how faith under pressure can transform lives.
Visionary Direction and Purposeful Production
Directed by Chim Onyebilanma, a storyteller and pastor, Treasure Hunt was produced by CAP Studios, a small but passionate production company in Embo, KwaZulu-Natal. The studio is dedicated to nurturing local talent and creating films with purpose.
A Star-Studded Cast with a Mission
South African actors Moopi Mothibeli, Muzi Mthabela, Trevor Gumbi, Zane Meas, and Samukele Mkhezie headline the cast — alongside many local talents who volunteered their time free of charge to support the film’s uplifting message.
“More Than a Film — A Message of Hope”
“This is more than a film,” says Onyebilanma. “It’s a message of hope. It’s about the real battles people face every day, and the choice to believe that your story isn’t over.”
